Five-Sided Pictures

So...apparently you're not supposed to take photos of the Pentagon outside of the designated areas. Yes. This is a designated area, well...the designated area. Just behind this fence (behind the camera) is a memorial set up for the people that died on 9/11 when the airplane struck the Pentagon. Only here can you can take pictures. I tried to take a couple photos in the parking lot just outside of the memorial and got royally reprimanded by a security officer. The portion of the building in this photo is where the plane crashed. You can distinguish the new portions by the slightly lighter-colored stone.

I was surprised at how close the metro stop is to the building. It seems to run right under the structure. For this reason it took us ten to fifteen minutes once reaching ground level to figure out that we were in fact looking at the Pentagon. When standing in front of it, the building is big enough that you can't see that it has five sides. I noticed that one can see the five-sided shape better at Arlington Cemetary than on the ground, but it is too far away for the camera to get a good picture.

  1. So what is your internship like? What do you do? How is it done? Do you like it? Do you miss the exciting world of AV IP?

We had a test on the Producer's manual for our section. That was exciting. Reed let me write the test...I don't think people appreciated the effort I put into it. Oh well.

We are hiring a couple new people to help out with the Radio and to fill the gaps in workload. Apparently, we need additional on-calls to fill the gaps that the FTE can't. We have a lot of qualified applicants. We are interview four people tomorrow. Two have graduate degrees, one scored a 174 on the LSAT and the other one, I can't remember why we are interviewing him. So there may be a couple new faces when you get back.

Sorry, this is a long comment. Just wanted to see how things were and give you an update. I will probably call you tomorrow because I have a couple questions about OTVR.

  2. My internship basically consists of people around the office bringing me various tasks that they don't have time to complete. Projects range from copying documents to editing proposals, to reviewing accounting reports, organizing resumes, etc. Basic office stuff.

I do miss the COB. Is someone keeping up the Free M&Ms tradition? I'm curious to hear more about the manual test. Did anyone pass it?... :) You'll also have to give me more info on the new hires. When would they potentially start working? Is Joseph back yet?

And still waiting for that OTVR call...well sort of. Has anything happened with that space footage? Did Scott Hamblin ever get you the edited DVD menus?

  3. And yes, you can go on tours, but I think you have to know somebody that knows somebody. Can Reed pull any strings at the Pentagon to get us a tour?

  4. Sorry, I have been busy with school etc. The new hires are going well. We have one starting in a couple weeks. Joseph should be back next Monday. OTVR is going well. I don't think the Space footage has been replaced, but I don't think anyone is really keeping up on it. For the most part, our team is buried. It doesn't help that our best people are either gone or leaving soon...
